Introduction to the course

The BTEC qualifications in this specification are QCF level 3 qualifications designed to provide highly specialist, work-related qualifications in a range of vocational sectors. They give learners the knowledge, understanding and skills that they need to prepare for employment.

Units that will be covered in your first year:

  • Government, Policies and the Public Services

  • Team Work and Leadership in the Uniformed Public Services

  • Citizenship, Diversity and the Public Services

  • Discipline and Self Discipline and the Uniformed Public Services

  • Health Fitness and Life Style and the Public Services

  • Fitness Testing for the Public Services

  • Skills for land based Outdoor and Adventurous Activities

  • Skills for Water-based Outdoor and Adventurous Activities

  • Communications and Technology in the Uniformed Public Services

Visits:

  • The Royal Marines

  • Prison visit

  • 3 Days at an ‘Outdoor Activity Centre’

  • Army look at life (one week)

Guest speakers:

  • National Crime Agency

  • Police officers

  • Navel submariners

You will study water-based activities, instructing physical activity, communications and technology and policing powers

What do I need?

4 GCSE's at A*-C or an equivalent Level 2 qualification at Merit grade, to come to an interview, pass an online assessment and have a good reference and an 87% attendance record.

How is the course taught?

This course is taught at both our Enfield and Tottenham Centres.

You will be taught in classrooms, workshops, outdoor activities such as camping trips and water sports, visits from outside speakers and organisations and online teaching as well as group and individual work.

How will I be assessed?

This course is taught at both our Enfield and Tottenham Centres.

Each unit within the qualification has specified assessment and grading criteria. A unit grade can be awarded at pass, merit or distinction

You will be assessed on:

  • Application of knowledge and understanding

  • Development of practical and technical skills

  • Personal development for occupational role

  • Application of generic skills

What does it lead to?

This qualification gives full-time students the opportunity to enter employment in the public services sector or to progress to vocational qualifications such as the Edexcel BTEC Higher Nationals in Public Services

Entry Level
