The following information applies to students aged 16-18 before 31 August 2011 taking a full time further education course in 2011/12.
EMA Update
If you are currently receiving an EMA and will be attending a full time course in 2011/12, you can continue to receive your EMA until the end of the 2011/12 academic year. You can contact Capita on 0808 101 6219 (free phone) for further information.
- If you first received an EMA in 2009/10, you will continue to receive the EMA at the same rate as now (£10, £20, £30 per week).
- If you first received an EMA in 2010/11 and are getting the higher rate of £30 per week, you will continue to get an EMA next year, but your weekly payment will be reduced to £20.
- You will still be able to claim the money even if you change your College, School or course.
- If you first received an EMA in 2010/11 but are getting the lower weekly rates of £20 or £10, you will not get an EMA in 2011/12.
- You may still be able to get financial help through our college Learner Support Fund (forms are available from the College Learner Support Centre) or apply for one of the new Bursaries.
£1,200 Bursary Fund
From September 2011, the EMA will be replaced by a new Bursary Scheme which is worth up to £1,200 per year. You can get a bursary if you are:
- Living in care and aged 16 or 17
- A care leaver and aged 16, 17 or 18
- Aged 16, 17 or 18 and receiving Income Support
- A young person with severe disabilities and in receipt of Income Support
- Disabled young person in receipt of Employment Support Allowance and receiving a Disability Living allowance.
Students other than those listed above, who are aged between 16 and 19 and face financial hardship can also apply for a bursary of up to £20 per week.
How do I apply?
- Complete a College Bursary application form below and return it to the College with the required document anytime during the summer.
- Collect an application form from the Learner Support Team located at the Tottenham or Enfield Centres of the College.
- Phone the Learner Support Team information line on 020 8442 3993.
Other requirements
- You have to meet the residency requirements of the scheme e.g. British Citizen, European National etc. See our application form or telephone our information line for details of all eligibility categories.
- You need to have your own bank account.
- You need to be studying at least 12 hours per week.
- To prove eligibility you will be required to provide a range of evidence including, passport, evidence of household income, etc
- You will have to fulfil the punctuality, attendance and course requirements laid down in the College Bursary agreement.
