“The support I’ve had here has been unbelievable"

Before she came to the College to study Midwifery in 2008, Annetta would have found the prospect of a university entrance test a little daunting. That’s not the case any longer – in fact she can’t see anything stopping her now.

“I’d been out of education for quite a while, so I found the work hard at first, but I’m determined to get through. Then when I had an interview at Middlesex University recently, I found the entrance test quite easy if I’m honest – I just felt really well prepared for it.”

“To anyone else thinking about coming back to study a little later in life, I would say it is absolutely worth it – but you definitely need to be in a supportive environment. The support I’ve had here has been unbelievable. Every time I’ve found myself with even a small problem, help has been there – from lecturers, tutors, the library staff, everyone. When I first came here, I was a bit worried about my English and Maths skills – Maths in particular was never really ‘my thing’. Now I’ve been able to do English and Maths courses alongside my midwifery course and I passed my Maths qualification recently. There are other parts of my course that I still find challenging – but with hard work and a lot of time in the library I’m determined to get there.”
