International Women's Day

14 March 2009CONEL

The College is hosting an event as part of Haringey's celebration of International Women’s Day on Saturday 14 March from 11am to 5 pm

This annual and world wide event was inspired by women seamstresses who went on strike in Manhattan USA, in the early 1900s, in an attempt to get their union recognised and to fight for decent wages and working conditions. In many countries, the 8th March is a national holiday and a reminder that vigilance is needed to make sure women’s equality gained, is maintained.

Everyone is welcome to come along for a fun and free day to celebrate the vital role that women play in Haringey. The special “Unsung Women Awards” will be handed out to women to acknowledge the contribution they have made to their communities.

There will be many activities including:

  • inspirational speakers – Marina Cantacuzino (the founder of the Forgiveness Project); Mary Honeyball (MEP) and Femi Otitoju (Director of Challenge Consultancy - dealing with training in equality & diversity)
  • advice and information
  • goodie bag
  • music
  • light lunch
  • tasters in meditation, massage, carpentry, painting & decorating, beauty make overs, fitness, Cuban salsa dancing etc.
  • play area for children
