Attendees were enticed into the building by the exuberant sounds of the Stamford Hill Primary School Steel Band. And after speeches by the Carnival President - Barry Bowman, Chairman - Nicky Price, Paul Head the Principal and Chief Executive of CONEL, and the Deputy Mayor - Sheila Peacock, guests were also treated to performances by Kids Ahead and the Yess organisation as well as Cuban, Irish and African entertainment.
The diverse backgrounds of these local artists prompted this years carnival theme of Unity In Colour. This is truly representative of the wide mix of cultures and creativity in this area. The London borough of Haringey hosts over 160 ethnic languages and 250,000 residents. Carnival goers will also be able to sample culinary treats from around the world at the great event itself on Saturday 19 June.
All this planned activity will create a glorious display all to be captured by BBC cameras and microphones. Executive Editor, Mike Macfarlane says: BBC London is delighted to be the media partner for this years Tottenham Carnival. With BBC London News on BBC One, our radio station BBC London 94.9 and our online service www.bbc.co.uk/london we celebrate being part of the worlds most exciting and diverse city.
