Fast Track to a Career in the Rail Industry

18 January 2010

The College of Haringey, Enfield and North East London is launching a new fast-track Railway Engineering Apprenticeship Programme aimed at 16-18 year old learners.

Developed in partnership with Silver Track Training, the fast track Apprenticeship Programme will cover all statutory licenses and the NVQ level 2 in rail track operations, to equip learners with the qualifications required to work within the rail industry as a competent track person.  There are no entry criteria for the Apprenticeship, but learners must be drug and alcohol free as this is a statutory requirement for working within the track side of the rail industry.

As part of their Apprenticeship, learners will be sponsored by one of the rail recruitment agencies and actively supported into work on the railway, to gain hands on experience within the rail industry.  After their work experience, Apprentices are classed as fully competent to work on the rail tracks and will travel nationally to meet the labour supply contracts.

The Apprenticeship in Railway Engineering provides a sound base for further study.  Once completed, learners could progress onto various higher level qualifications such as a Foundation Degree while gaining real experience working on the track.

The new fast-track programme takes just 14 weeks to complete and learners will gain:
•    NVQ Level 2 in Rail Track Operations
•    Personal Track Safety (PTS) Licence
•    Track Induction Course (TIC) Licence
•    Plus Key Skills in Literacy and Numeracy at Level 1

If you are aged 16-18 and are interested in the new fast track Railway Engineering Apprenticeship then please contact our Enfield Centre Admissions Services on 020 8372 7616 or email admissions@enfield.ac.uk
