  • What qualifications do I need?This course is for those who do not have any formal qualifications, but would like to be able to apply to university to study at degree level with a mature outlook to life and studying. You must be extremely motivated to ensure success on this course. You will be invited to attend an interview and complete an assessment to determine your suitability for the course.

  • What will I learn?This course has been designed for our students who do not have any formal qualifications, but would like to be able to apply to university to study at degree level. You will study sociology, psychology and philosophy. Sociology: The sociology of Crime and Deviance; The sociology of the family; Sociology, Culture & Identity; Social Class; Sociology of Poverty and the Welfare State. Philosophy: The origins of philosophical thought; Justice and Society; existenialism; Marx and Hegel; Consequentialism Psychology: Introduction to Psychology; Child Development; Perspectives in Psychology; controversial issues in psychology; Individual Differences: Abnormality. You will also follow a programme of study skills including: essay writing, note taking and examination techniques. The course equips our students with the skills to study on a university degree programme. Our students are taught study skills, including essay writing and note-taking. Students submit a portfolio that includes: presentation witness statements; essays and reports.

  • How will I be taught?The process of portfolio development - this includes guidance on writing on critical issues on the following psychology; sociology; philosophy Subject based activities i.e. experiments, classroom work; workshops; lecturer presentations; debate forums.

  • How will I be assessed?You will be assessed though the use of essays, reports, presentations (witness statements), projects.

  • What could I do next?This course will prepare you for entry onto higher education courses including a Higher National Certificate, Higher National Diploma or Degree Level study.

  • How would this benefit my employer?This course is primarily designed for our students who will attend university to follow a course of study. The College will equip our students with the necessary transferable skills that will benefit potential employers such as: word-processing; spreadsheet (input and analysis) accuracy of language, grammar and general report and writing skills.
