What will I learn? An Apprenticeship is a combination of workplace training and classroom learning. You will complete a Level 3 Diploma in Children and Young People's Workforce, Paediatric First Aid, key skills in communication and application of number and work skills which form the Apprenticeship Framework.
What qualifications do I need? You must be at least 16 and you must be employed in an appropriate early years setting such as school, nursery, group childminder, pre-school or after school club/holiday play schemes in a supervisory or managerial role. A Level 2 qualification is desirable but not essential if you have extensive work-based experience.
How will I be taught?Workshops will provide you with the knowledge for working with children and young people.
How will I be assessed? You will be assigned an assessor who will carry out observations and professional discussions with you in the work setting and will support you to build a portfolio of evidence. For your key skills you will complete a portfolio of work and take a short test.
What could I do next? This qualification will enable you to gain promotion in employment including managerial positions and the opportunity to progress to higher education.
How would this benefit my employer? The skills and knowledge you gain will extend your professional practice and contribute to the work setting. Flexible workshop timings mean minimal disruption to work rotas. A range of government funded schemes mean that employers can access low cost, or even free, training for staff who meet certain criteria.
