Course CodeCR1MFAC1
What qualifications do I need? You will need to have an interest in children and show that you can work at this level. English/Literacy at Level 1 or working towards Level 1 is required. Criminal Record Bureau and Independent Safeguarding Authority checks are required.
What will I learn? This course is suitable if you wish to work with children but lack the necessary literacy skills if perhaps English is not your first language. The course covers the development and care of children, providing play activities and health and safety. You will study three hours of English a week to enable you to develop literacy skills. This course does not qualify you to work with children in a school, nursery or pre-school, as you need to progress to a Level 2 qualification.
How will I be taught? You have a mixture of group activities, discussions, some lectures and practical activities. You spend a minimum of 90 hours in a work experience placement.
How will I be assessed? You are assessed through your coursework. You complete a personal action plan and a portfolio showing achievements over the year. English, maths and ICT have tests.
What could I do next?If you gain an overall Merit/Distinction and Literacy Level 1, you can apply for a Level 2 childcare course.
