What qualifications do I need?This would be a natural progression route for students who have successfully completed Level 1. It is highly recommended to have the Level 1 or equivalent before embarking on this course. Some work experience in the health and fitness area is an advantage. You must be enthusiastic, energetic and show an interest in all fitness disciplines. Good basic literacy skills are needed to be successful on the course and a basic level of personal fitness is essential.
What will I learn?This course is suitable for anyone who is seeking a recognised qualification as a fully qualified fitness instructor. It covers theory, anatomy and physiology and practical work in the following areas of fitness: exercise to music, resistance (gym) training and circuit training.
How will I be taught?This is a practical course taught in the College gym and fitness centre.
How will I be assessed?You will be assessed in a variety of ways, including assignments and practical tasks.
What could I do next?You may progress onto CYQ Level 3 or BTEC Level 2 Sport The modules within this are: NVQ Gym Based Exercise, NVQ Group Exercise with Music, NVQ Water Based Exercise. NVQ Level 3 in Instructing Physical Activity and Exercise. Modules are: NVQ Gym Based Exercise, NVQ Group Exercise with Music, NVQ Yoga.
