What will I learn?Person-Centred Art Therapy Skills was originated by Liesl Silverstone (BACP) Fellow. This course integrates Carl Rogers' person-centred approach with the therapeutic use of art images. The skills learned are then transferred to work settings. The programme covers the three main areas - theory, personal development and application - and is open to anyone who works with interpersonal skills e.g. in educational, community, medical or therapeutic settings. Art training is not required. Some background in counselling is beneficial.
What qualifications do I need? You will need to demonstrate emotional maturity and be a qualified practising counsellor able to use person-centred art therapy skills as part of your paid or voluntary work. The Certificate in Counselling Skills is desirable.
How will I be taught? The course is highly participatory and student centred. You will be involved in creating your own 'guided fantasy' visualisations and developing Person- Centred Art Therapy Skills.
How will I be assessed? The diploma is based on on-going self, peer and tutor assessment.
What could I do next?On successful completion of the course participants will gain a Diploma in Person-Centred Art Therapy Skills. The Diploma does not entitle participants to call themselves Art Therapists.
