  • What will I learn?You will develop your skills in providing character make-up techniques, removing special effects, media and make-up. You will need time for personal study and you must be able to purchase your own specialist kit and uniform. You will study health and safety associated with anatomy and physiology, practical skills for make-up, Functional Skills in maths and English. Practical work is carried out on clients and fellow students. You will participate in the day to day running the salons and reception area.

  • What qualifications do I need?You will need Beauty Therapy NVQ Level 2 or Make-up Level 2 or a recognized equivalent; you will be required to demonstrate your practical skills and knowledge at this level. You must also have literacy skills at Level 1/2 and numeracy Level 1, a very good understanding of science and time for personal study. A meeting will be arranged with you to discuss the course requirements.

  • How will I be taught?This course has practical sessions delivered in Commercial Beauty salons with theory being delivered using state of the art interactive whiteboards and ICT provision to help with assignments. One to one tutorial support is provided by industry qualified lecturers with up to date knowledge of new and emerging trends.

  • How will I be assessed?Assessment is carried out by practical observation, oral questioning, assignments and written papers, and online exams.

  • What could I do next?You could progress to other courses within the College, or higher level courses, a HND, BA or foundation degree. You could also gain work as a make-up artist working in TV, film or theatre.

  • How would this benefit my employer?Employers will have qualified theatrical make-up technicians employed and the possibility of staff also going on to become Beauty Therapists.
