  • What will I learn?This course is designed to provide a specialist work-related qualification in science. You will develop the knowledge, understanding and skills necessary for employment or further study at Level 3. You will gain a nationally recognised vocationally specific qualification to enter employment as a science technician or assistant practitioner, or to progress to other vocational qualifications such as BTEC Nationals in Applied Science. Opportunities are provided for learners to develop the skills and knowledge required to work in the applied science industry or in an organisation that uses science. You will gain an understanding of the role of the science technician, their relationship with the scientific community and their responsibilities towards the community and the environment.

  • What qualifications do I need?You will need at least four GCSEs at grade D to G or other related Level 1 or 2 qualifications.

  • How will I be taught?The course is taught through practical investigation and demonstrations. The course will also include guest speakers from the science community.

  • How will I be assessed?Assessment is continuous, through written assignments and practical reports.

  • What could I do next?You could go on to the BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Applied Sciences or BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Pharmaceutical Science.
