What qualifications do I need?You will need three GCSEs at grade D or above including English, or a Level 1 vocational qualification plus a relevant Level 1 literacy qualification. You must show a strong interest in art and design and will need to provide visual evidence by either presenting a portfolio of work or completing a project set by the College at interview stage.
What will I learn?This course is for those who are at the start of their careers and who need a broad vocational introduction to art and design. It aims to develop design skills including painting and drawing, contextual studies, sculpture, 3D graphics /digital imaging, time based media and key skills, textiles, sculpture and 3D design products, and a variety of 2D media. This course has been developed to focus on: . those who work or are intending to work in the art and design industry . providing opportunities to achieve a nationally recognised Level 2 vocationally specific qualification . qualifications to enter employment in art and design or to progress to higher education vocational qualifications such as the Edexcel Level 3 BTEC National in Art and Design . providing opportunities to develop a range of skills and techniques, personal qualities and attitudes essential for successful performance in working life.
How will I be taught?This Course is taught using lectures, practical demonstration and individual responses to design briefs. Students will work in a variety of classroom settings according to the disciplines being taught. A variety of field trips and gallery visits will be conducted over the year.
How will I be assessed?Assessment both formative and summative will be conducted at regular times throughout the year to assist in the successful completion of core and specialist Units.
What could I do next?BTEC Award and Certificate courses in graphics, fashion or fine art.
