What will I learn? The Foundation Degree is highly valued by government and employers, and was planned with the support of local colleges. It is concerned with ideas and practices that are drawn from a range of disciplines, history, psychology, philosophy, sociology and management, all of which contribute to the understanding of early years practice and theory. During the degree you are introduced to the study of these disciplines within the context of examining early year's services policies and procedures. The emphasis in this degree is linking the theory and practice of Early Years in a way that enables the practitioner to widen and deepen their own practice and understanding, and maximise their opportunities to progress in their careers.
What qualifications do I need? You must be in paid employment or volunteering two days a week in a suitable early years work setting with children, and have a relevant Level 3 qualification. This could be a CACHE Level 3, DCE, NVQ Level 3, DPP or equivalent.
How will I be taught? You will have a mixture of lectures, seminars, practical workshops and discussions. Once a term you will have a lecture at Middlesex University, Trent Park Campus.
How will I be assessed? You are assessed through coursework, reflective accounts, presentations and case studies.
What could I do next? You could progress to a BA Hons Degree in Childhood Studies or Education or to Early Years Professional Status (EYPS).
