What will I learn?This course provides the basic knowledge for starting a career in science for people who have not studied before. It includes the study of life processes and living things, materials and their properties and physical processes. You do a set of eight units with a test, assignments and experiments in each. The aim of the BTEC Introductory Certificate to stimulate interest in scientific achievements in those aged 14-19 who wish to follow a vocationally related course. Those choosing to study this course may wish to make a fresh start on a course that offers a different learning and assessment style to GCSE's or they could be post-19 and intend to return to education/training or prepare for employment. You will also develop major key skills and the wider key skills in context, such as improving their own learning and performance and working with others.
What qualifications do I need?You will need to pass a test when you come for interview. You will also need a referee to comment on your previous studies.
How will I be taught?The course is taught through practical investigation and demonstrations. The course will also include speakers from the science community.
How will I be assessed?The course is assessed through assignments throughout the year that will build into a portfolio.
What could I do next?You could progress to the BTEC first diploma in applied science.
