  • What qualifications do I need?You will need to be at least 16 years old with a minimum of five GCSEs at grade C or above, preferably including maths and science or a BTEC First in Science at merit grade. You will need to pass an initial assessment. You will also need a reference on your ability to study.

  • What will I learn?The qualification offers an engaging programme for those who wish to enter employment as a forensic science technician or those that wish to study forensic science at university. You will examine simulated Crime Scenes and use a range of science skills to solve the investigation. You will develop team building and problem solving skills that will improve your skills as a respected scientist. Your practical assignments are based on scenarios encountered by forensic science technicians There are five Core Units of study supported by seven specialist forensic units including, Road Traffic Accident Investigation and Forensic Psychology. You will improve your skills in biology, chemistry and physics so that you fully understand the role of a forensic investigator. These skills and attributes, coupled with basic and key skills mapped to the qualifications, will form the basis of successful study at higher levels.

  • How will I be taught?Teaching is through a wide variety of methods which include, practicals, lectures, practical investigations, videos, role-play outside visits.

  • How will I be assessed?You are graded by continual assessment. This can be written assignments and practical investigations on which you will write your report. You will track your progress through the course and are in control of your final grade.

  • What could I do next?You could progress to science employment or a degree or diploma course at university in science or forensic science subjects.
