What qualifications do I need?You will need four GCSEs at grades A-C including English or a Level 2 vocational qualification at merit level plus a relevant Level 2 literacy qualification. Relevant experience in this field of study will be taken into consideration for adults returning to education.
What will I learn?This course provides a specialist work-related programme of study that covers the key knowledge and practical skills required in the areas of music technology and production. You will study advanced sequencing, sampling, live music recording including the use of a full recording studio. You will undertake music video production and score writing for film. You will also study the roles and requirements for work in the music industry. You will either progress to a junior music industry role or to a specialist music/audio related degree programme.
How will I be taught?This course is taught in a classroom through seminars, lectures and workshops.
How will I be assessed?You will be assessed through practical projects, observation and written assessments.
What could I do next?You could progress onto university. You could possibly gain employment in the music industry working as a runner, sound engineer, A&R talent scout, marketing and PR officer or even signed as an artist. You will be trained in interview techniques that will enable you to penetrate the freelance side of the business, where 75% of employment opportunities occur.
