What will I learn?The course is designed by HABIA and City & Guilds to give you the skills needed to progress on to the Level 2 programme, or to assist in a salon situation. Subjects include: health and safety in the salon, contribute to the development of effective working relationships, shampooing and conditioning hair, prepare for hair services and maintain work areas, blow dry hair and assist with hair colouring services. You will also develop functional skills in literacy, numeracy and IT. Tutorial support will help you to progress and develop confidence in improving your own learning and performance whilst on the course. You will be required to assist in the salon reception area and training salons and attend a salon work placement one day per week to gain experience within the industry. You must be able to purchase your own specialist equipment/kit.
What qualifications do I need?You will need to find a salon yourself but the College can help you do this. The course is for learners over 16 years old with literacy skills at, or working towards Level 1 who are working in a salon.
How will I be taught?This course has practical sessions delivered in Commercial Hairdressing salons with theory being delivered using state of the art interactive whiteboards and ICT provision to help with achieving on line exams. One to one tutorial support is provided by industry qualiifed lecturers with up to date knowledege of new and emerging trends.
How will I be assessed?You will be assessed by practical observation and online testing.
What could I do next?You could progress to City & Guilds NVQ Hairdressing Level 2.
How would this benefit my employer?Employers will have qualified Junior employees and the possibility of staff going on to becoming full Level 2 stylists.

Most courses start in September, January or February and at various points throughout the year. Courses are held at our Tottenham or Enfield Centres.
