What will I learn?This course is for those wishing to gain a commercial qualification and gain employment as a first-year operator or for those who are progressing from the General Hairdressing Level 1 or 2 course. You must be able to purchase your own specialist kit and uniform. You will study health and safety in the salon, working in the hair industry, client care, advanced styling, advanced cutting, colouring and perming techniques. Practical work is carried out on clients and fellow students. You will be expected to participate fully in the day to day running of the salons and reception area. This commitment needs to be ongoing even after competence has been proved.
What qualifications do I need?You will need 3 GCSE passes at grades C-D (including English and mathematics or science) or Hairdressing NVQ 1 or 2 with related key or basic skills. If you do not have the above entry requirements you will be required to take the College's initial assessment.
How will I be taught?This course has practical sessions delivered in Commercial Hairdressing and Barbering salons with theory being delivered using state of the art interactive whiteboards and ICT provision to help with assignments. One to one tutorial support is provided by industry qualified lecturers with up to date knowledge of new and emerging trends.
How will I be assessed?Assessment is carried out by practical observation and oral questions.
What could I do next?You could progress to the VRQ Hairdressing Level 3 Diploma
How would this benefit my employer?Employers will have fully qualified Barber employees and the possibility of staff going on to becomeing full Level 3 senior stylists.
