What will I learn?You will develop skills in manicure, pedicure, nail extensions and nail art. You will need time for personal study and you must be able to purchase your own specialist kit and uniform. You will study: health and safety associated anatomy and physiology, the relevant practical skills for manicure, pedicure, nail extensions and nail art. You will learn how to promote additional products and services to clients and the financial effectiveness of running a business. You will develop functional skills in: communication, application of number. Practical work is carried out on clients and fellow students. You will be expected to participate fully in the day to day running of the salons and reception area.
What qualifications do I need?You will need 3 GCSE passes at grades C-D (including English and mathematics or science) or equivalent. If you do not have these requirements you will be required to take the College's initial assessment, which will need to show that you are working at Literacy Level 1-2.
How will I be taught?This course has practical sessions delivered in Commercial Beauty salons with theory being delivered using state of the art interactive whiteboards and ICT provision to help with assignments. One to one tutorial support is provided by industry qualified lecturers with up to date knowledge of new and emerging trends.
How will I be assessed?Assessment is carried out by practical observation, oral questioning, assignments and written papers.
What could I do next?You could progress to other beauty or hair courses within the College.
How would this benefit my employer?Employers will have fully qualified nail technicians who may take higher qualifications.
