If you are 16-24, have a real interest in hairdressing, apply now for our Hairdressing Pre-Apprenticeship programme.
The pre-apprenticeship is a 14 week programme designed to prepare you for entry to a full time apprenticeship.
About the programme
- This exciting course offers a hairdressing qualification, work skills, a minimum of one day’s work experience in a salon and the opportunity to improve your interview techniques.
- You will study ladies hairstyling and have opportunity to style ladies hair on clients attending the salon sessions.
- You will have a personal tutor who will guide and support you, and have access to our careers service. Financial advice is also available.
- The course runs for 14 weeks and is based at the Tottenham Centre
- You will attend college on Wednesday 9.30am to 1.30pm, Thursday 10.30am to 4.00pm and Friday 10.30am to 4.30pm.
- Qualifications gained will be a VRQ Level 1 Award plus an extra unit and work skills award worth three credits.

What is an Apprenticeship?
Apprenticeships refer to on-the-job training leading to industry recognised qualifications.
What will I get paid?
Pre-apprentices receive £30 a week subject to eligibility.
How often will I attend training?
You will attend training three days a week for 13 hour over 14 weeks.
Will I be sitting exams?
Yes. There will be practical and theory based assessments and online exams. You will need to be prepared to work hard but it will be worth it!
I already work in a salon can I still join the programme?
Yes. This will be very valuable to your programme and can help in your training and assessment programme.

How much can I earn?
- Beauty Therapist: £10,000 (NVQ Level 3) to £20,000 (experienced)
- Hairdresser: £7,342 (NVQ Level 2 or 3) to £30,000 (experienced/manager)
- Make-up Artist: £15,000 (Level 3) to £45,000 (very experienced)
- Nail Technician: £10,000 (NVQ Level 2 or 3) to £28,000 (experienced/manager)
