"The tutors are very helpful"
Connor is 19 years old. After taking GCSEs at school, he was doing a weekend job when he found out about Apprenticeships. He was interviewed at the TA Horn office in September 2006. He's in his third year now, doing one day a week at College and the rest of the week with his employer. He will finish his Level 3 NVQ this summer and complete his NVQ folder.
"I started Level 1 knowing nothing. It's been very good, I enjoy coming to the job. The training is good too, it's helpful and I haven't had any problems. I've done courses to help with my English and maths - you need that before you start the Level 2, but they give you the chance to take it again if you have to. The tutors are very helpful - if you ask for revision sheets they give you them straight away.
When I finish the Level 3 I'll do more short courses to add to my knowledge: unvented, water regulations, elements of ACS – corgi gas safety, gas boilers and so on. I'll be able to get some more experience and do all domestic plumbing and gas work; I'm happy in this field.
My message to other young people starting out would be to try and figure out what you want to do quickly and get stuck into it."
