ABOUT THE COURSE

This course is designed primarily for 16 to 19+ learners who wish to achieve a Level 2 qualification in preparation for future study at a higher level. You will develop the skills and knowledge needed to begin a career in science, covering biology, chemistry and physics, with emphasis on the work of scientists and technicians.

WHAT WILL I NEED?

You will need:

  • Three GCSE's at grade 3 or above, including English Language, Maths and Science or a Level 1 Diploma in Science, with Functional Skills in Maths and English at Level 1.

All applicants must have an interview and assessment to confirm that the course is suitable for them.

HOW WILL I BE ASSESSED?

The Pearson BTEC Level 2 Extended Certificate in Applied Science has two externally assessed units. This will help learners as they progress either into higher levels of vocational learning or to related academic qualifications. The remaining units are internally assessed. Internal assessment allows learners to develop a wider range of skills and provides evidence towards meeting the unit assessment criteria. Evidence for assessment can be generated through a range of activities, including role play, practical performance and verbal presentations.

If you will be aged 16, 17 or 18 on 31 August in the year you begin your course, and have been resident in the UK/EU/EEA for the past 3 years, it will be FREE. Some courses will have other costs associated, such as for materials and trips. Adults

Entry Level, Level 1, Level 2
If you will be aged 19 or older on 31 August in the year you begin your course, and have been resident in the UK/EU/EEA for the past 3 years, your course will be FREE, regardless of your age or income. WHAT CAN I DO AFTER?

Upon successfully completing this course, you are able to progress to progress straight into a Level 3 Science Apprenticeship or study further by doing the Level 3 National Foundation in Applied Science if you wish to go to university.
