ABOUT THE COURSE

This course prepares students to become Early Years Educators, enabling them to work with children from birth to 5 years and gain knowledge of children aged 5 to 7 years.

WHAT WILL I STUDY?

Topics covered can include:

  • Child development from conception to seven years
  • Children’s health and well-being
  • Providing safe environments for children
  • Child health
  • Play and learning
  • Understanding children’s additional needs
  • Observation, assessment and planning

 

WHAT WILL I NEED?

You will need:

  • 5 GCSEs at grade 4 or above, including English or equivalent Level 2 qualification with Functional Skills at Level 2 in English
  • Enhanced DBS Check - we are able to advise you on how to apply for this, but you must pay for this in advance of work placements

All applicants must have an interview and assessment to confirm that the course is suitable for them.

HOW WILL I BE ASSESSED?

Assessment is carried out in the workplace by a qualified assessor and you will also be required to produce a portfolio of evidence.

WHAT WILL IT COST?

SCHOOL LEAVERS

If you will be aged 16, 17 or 18 on 31 August in the year you begin your course, and have been resident in the UK/EU/EEA for the past 3 years, it will be FREE. Some courses will have other costs associated, such as for materials and trips. ADULTS

If you will be aged 19 or older on 31 August in the year you begin your course, and have been resident in the UK/EU/EEA for the past 3 years, you may be eligible for an Advanced Learner Loan to cover the cost of your course. Some courses will have other costs associated, such as for materials and trips. WHAT CAN I DO AFTER?

This course will help you to move on to higher level courses, such as a Foundation Degree, an apprenticeship or other employment in the sector.
