This course will give you the skills needed to work as a counsellor, increasing your understanding of the process and teaching you about the sensitivity and awareness needed for change and growth. You will learn about the ethics within the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy's (BCAP) Ethical Framework for Counselling and Psychotherapy, as well as the major approaches to counselling and their philosophical and practical assumptions about the nature of humans.
Our teachers are currently planning for the safest ways to deliver this course from September. We have been delivering all of our courses online since the outbreak of Coronavirus in March 2020, and we are fully equipped to continue this for as long as is necessary. We hope to be able to deliver the course in a mixed format - blending online lessons with face-to-face teaching – as and when we feel that, on the basis of Government advice and our own risk assessments, it is safe to do so. The ratio of face-to-face teaching in our college buildings to online teaching will vary from course to course, so more specific information will be provided to you at enrolment.
Topics covered can include:
You do not need to have any previous qualifications, but should be able to demonstrate three years of relevant work experience.
All applicants must have an assessment and interview to confirm that the course is suitable for them.
The course encourages constant written self-review in the form of keeping a learning review journal and filling in a self-review sheet on a weekly basis. There will be a written assignment, which is assessed internally, in addition to one external assessment based on written feedback in relation to a video.
Entry Level, Level 1, Level 2
