Introduction to Counselling Skills - Level 2 Award

This is a 10 week short course for those interested in counselling. The course will give learners a brief insight to the world of counselling and developing the essential skills to become a registered counsellor. This is an excellent course for those that are thinking of undertaking a formal qualification in counselling as it provides a taster of what would be the expectations and requirements for this type of work.

This qualilfcation is made up of seven learning outcomes and associated assessment criteria.  This structure is based on the seven porcesses fo the CPCAB's Model.

You must be internally assessed as Proficient in all 7 learning outcomes in order to achieve the qualification.

• Work within the limitations of the helping role
• Establish boundaries for helping work
• Communicate empathic understanding
• Foucs on the helpee's agenda
• Understand the importance of self-awareness in helping work
• Use listening and responding skills
• Use review and feedback to develop initial counselling skills

Course activities will include:

• Seminars and workshops
• Review of skills work & skills practice
• Review of learning
• Tutor assessed skills practice
• Tutorials

• No previous training or experience is required
• You must have at least Functional Skills Level 1 English and good ICT skills would support you with the building of your portfolio
• This qualification is not suitable for those who are currently in a state of severe emotional difficulty and/or severe psychological distress.

Students will be asked to keep a portfolio of ther coursework to show your tutor what you have learnt, and this will also help you with the learning process.

You will complete the following forms of assessment as part of your learning journey with us:

• Learning Reviews - which will contain your relfections on the inputs, discussions and readings for the course.
• Tutor observations - you will have tutor feedback on your skills practice sessions.
• Testimony - Peer feedback on your skills practice sessions, which will mean you will also need to provide feedback yourself.
• You must give ONE piece of evidence for every criterion and reference these in your Candidate Learning Record (CLR).

Adults

Entry Level, Level 1, Level 2
If you will be aged 19 or older on 31 August in the year you begin your course, and have been resident in the UK/EU/EEA for the past 3 years, your course will be FREE, regardless of your age or income. Some courses will have other costs associated, such as for materials and trips. Learners can progress to CPCAB Level 2 Cousnelling Skills (Csk-L2) and then go onto CPCAB Level 3 Counsellign Studies.  Some of you may wish to enter higher education and go on to different counselling disciplines.
