ABOUT THE COURSE

This course will teach you the basics of manual bookkeeping, and give you a solid knowledge base to take your first steps towards a career in either business or finance, upskill for your current role, or advance to further study and progress to additional  qualifications.  This is a part-time course, with multiple start dates throughout the year which allows us to fit the course around your existing home, study, and work commitments.  There are both daytime and evening programmes on offer.

WHAT WILL I STUDY?

The Level 1 Bookkeeping Award covers the following areas:

  • Understand the role of the bookkeeper
  • Understanding financial transactions
  • Process customer and supplier transactions
  • Process receipts and payments

WHAT WILL I NEED?

The first level of Bookkeeping is suited for students with limited or no prior accounting knowledge.  Learners need to be +19 and have achieved  a minimum of Entry 3 in both Maths and English.  An initial assessment and interview will be required for all applicants. 

HOW WILL I BE ASSESSED?

There is one 90 minute computer-based assessment  which includes eight tasks.

WHAT WILL IT COST?

There are no additional costs.  The membership costs are covered by the college.

WHAT CAN I DO AFTER?

After successfully completing the Level 1 Access Award in Bookkeeping, you can choose to study another of our Level 1  courses:

  • Level 1 Access Award in Business Skills (AAT)
  • Level 1 Award in Computerised Accounting (Skills First)

Alternatively, you could choose to advance to one of our Level 2 AAT programmes including:

  • Level 2 Certificate in Bookkeeping (AAT)
  • Level 2 Certificate in Accounting (AAT)

This course can lead to employment in a variety of junior or support administrative roles, in both the public and private sectors, including trainee bookkeeper, clerical assistants and assistant cashier.
