This course is for musicians who want to enter the music industry or those who want to get into a business role within the industry. Our music laboratories have industry-standard equipment, including Apple iMacs, equipped with Logic, Ableton, Midi Keyboards and fully functional recording studios with state-of-the-art mixing desks. There are opportunities to participate in live performances and you will study topics related to the music industry. There will also be visits, trips and work experience. Many of our teachers are professional musicians, which gives the course a real work focus. During your course you will be engaging in work-based activities aimed at giving you an insight into working in this industry.
You will be studying the following units:
Unit 1: Principles of music performance and production
Unit 2:?Critical listening and music composition
Unit 3: Music industry and professional practice
Unit 4: Critical and contextual awareness for music performance and production
Unit 5: Music production in context
Unit 6: Music performance in context
Unit 7: Preparation for specialist study in music performance and production
Unit 8: Collaborative music performance project
Entry requirements: 4 GCSEs Grade 4 and above, Level 2 Vocational Qualification with a merit, BKSB English and maths Level 2 or above,
You will be assessed continually through practical project work, coursework, written assignments and presentations. You will complete four practical projects and be assessed by portfolio. Your final project will be assessed by the examining board.?
