The purpose of the qualification is to provide the learner with an understanding of the role of a peer mentor and the skills used in peer mentoring. In achieving the qualification learners will have understood the aims of a peer mentoring programme and the codes of conduct, organisational and legal requirements to be followed by a peer mentor.
In achieving the qualification learners will acquire communication, planning, and review skills necessary for peer mentoring. Learners will also identify the support available to them and use feedback to reflect on their practice.
The Award comprises two mandatory units that have been designed to be suitable for a range of contexts. Mentoring may aim to support individuals’ goals in spheres such as health and wellbeing, managing money, dealing with bullying, or addressing offending behaviour. The units have also been designed to be appropriate for peer mentoring which is to be delivered face to face, by phone, or online.

All applicants must have an initial assessment and interview to confirm that the course is suitable for them.
You will cover two units: Peer Mentoring and Skills and Understanding Peer Mentoring.
You will be able to demonstrate that you can establish a peer mentoring relationship; use communication skills in peer mentoring and awareness of how to enable an individual to review progress.
You will be able to demonstrate an understanding of the purpose of peer mentoring; an understanding of the law relevant to a peer mentor; an understanding of the codes of conduct for peer mentoring; an understanding of record keeping requirements in peer mentoring and how to make referrals as a peer mentor.
You will be continuously assessed throughout the course. Assessment is subject to external verification. Some of the methods of assessment include case study projects, written question & answer/test/exam, role play/simulation, essay practical demonstration.
Entry Level, Level 1, Level 2
If you will be aged 19 or older on 31 August in the year you begin your course, and have been resident in the UK/EU/EEA for the past 3 years, your course will be FREE, regardless of your age or income. Some courses will have other costs associated, such as for materials and trips. For learners who are in employment, this qualification could enhance their progression opportunities within the place of work.
Some learners who complete this qualification and undertake peer mentoring may wish to progress to vocational qualifications in sectors such as teaching, health and social care, or learning and development. If you are interested in teaching you may progress to the Level 3 Award in Education and Training.
