ABOUT THE COURSE

This course has been designed to develop your practical hair and make-up skills to an advanced level, equipping you to work in theatre, TV, film, special effects and other media.

You will cover specialist topics such as how to apply camouflage make-up, how to apply ready-made small prosthetic pieces and bald caps, and how style and fit a postiche, as well as how to apply the complex skill of airbrush make-up.

WHAT WILL I STUDY?

Topics covered can include:

  • create and cast small prosthetic pieces and bald caps
  • face and body art
  • styling and dressing hair
  • fantasy hair design
  • creative hairdressing design skills
  • facial skin care
  • instruction on make-up application
  • create an image using hair and beauty techniques
  • wig services

WHAT WILL I NEED?

You will need:

  • A relevant Level 2 Diploma, such as Hairdressing, Beauty Therapy or Media Make-Up

All applicants must have an initial assessment and interview to confirm that the course is suitable for them.

HOW WILL I BE ASSESSED?

You will be assessed on the practical work that you do in the salon as well as through observations, an e-portfolio, online testing, assignments and oral questioning.

WHAT WILL IT COST?

School Leavers

If you will be aged 16, 17 or 18 on 31 August in the year you begin your course, and have been resident in the UK/EU/EEA for the past 3 years, it will be FREE. Some courses will have other costs associated, such as for materials and trips. Adults

If you will be aged 19 or older on 31 August in the year you begin your course, and have been resident in the UK/EU/EEA for the past 3 years, you may be eligible for an Advanced Learner Loan to cover the cost of your course.
