Introduction to the course

During this course, you will gain the core technical knowledge and the practical skills needed to be successful at Level 2 in the construction industry.

In addition to the theory you will learn, the course is taught using a mixture of practical training and assessment. You will complete a portfolio of evidence to supplement your qualification.

Carpentry and Joinery Level 2 includes the following modules:

-Health, Safety and Welfare in Construction

-Principles of Building Construction, Information and Communication

-Flooring and Roofing

-Frames, Partitions and Stairs

-Carpentry Maintenance

-How to Set up and Operate a Circular Saw

Practical activities include the following:

-Hanging Doors

-Fitting Frames





-Practicing hand skills

-Safe use of power tools


-Floor construction

-Roof construction

-Partition walls


-Casings and claddings

What do I need?

You will need 4 GCSEs at grades A*–G and a Carpentry and Joinery qualification to enrol onto this course.

You will also be required to come to an interview, pass an online assessment, and have a strong attendance and punctuality record (87%), as well as a good reference.

How is the course taught?

Throughout the Carpentry and Joinery Level 2 course, you will be taught through practical exercises, primarily in the construction workshops. There is also an opportunity for group work and theory sessions in the classroom.

How will I be assessed?

You will be assessed through practical tasks, observations and an end-of-course online examination.

What does it lead to?

You could progress to the Carpentry and Joinery Advanced Apprenticeship if you complete this course successfully.
