Introduction to the course

You will gain the core technical knowledge and practical skills needed to be successful at Level 2 in the industry.

In addition to the theory you will learn, the course is taught using a mixture of practical training and assessment.  You will complete a portfolio of evidence to supplement your qualification.

Carpentry and Joinery Level 2 includes:

  • Health, Safety and Welfare in Construction

  • Principles of Building Construction, Information and Communication

  • Carry out Flooring and Roofing

  • Carry out Frames, Partitions and Stairs

  • Carry out Carpentry Maintenance

  • Set up and Operate a Circular Saw

  • Practical activities include:

  • Hanging Doors

  • Fitting Frames

  • Stairs

  • Joists

  • Rafters

  • Ironmongery

  • hand skills

  • safe use of power tools

  • scaffolding

  • floor construction

  • roof construction

  • partition walls

  • windows

  • casings and claddings

What do I need?

You will need 4 GCSEs at grades A*–G and a Carpentry and Joinery qualification, to come to an interview, pass an online assessment and have a attendance and punctuality record (87%) and a good reference.

How is the course taught?

you will be taught through practical exercises primarily in the Construction workshops and there is also an opportunity for group work and theory sessions in the classroom.

How will I be assessed?

You will be assessed through practical tasks observations and an end of course on-line examination.

What does it lead to?

You could progress to the Carpentry and Joinery Advanced Apprenticeship if employed.

What jobs could this lead to?

Carpenter, Joiner, Scaffolder, Roofer and a variety of roles including Fenestration, Flooring and Door-Hanging.
