Introduction to the course

This qualification is aimed at learners interested in working in the creative and digital media sectors. It provides them with the core skills for scoping, planning and creating products and assets for the sector and encourages creativity and originality with a vocational focus.

The aims of these qualifications are to:

  • develop skills and gain underpinning knowledge and understanding which will support entry into the Creative Media sector

  • develop candidates’ skills and competence in one or more specialist areas in order to meet industry requirements

This will give candidates the opportunity to:

  • achieve a nationally recognised qualification valued by employers

  • prepare for employment in the Creative Media sector

If you are 16-18 years old and have not yet achieved a grade C (or above) in GCSE English and maths, you will be required to attend GCSE sessions (if you achieved grade D) or functional skills sessions (if you achieved grade E or below).

You will also develop skills in the following subject area:

  • Pre-Production Skills

  • Sound effects

  • Storytelling with a comic strip

  • Digital performance

  • Interactive Media Concepts

  • Animation

  • Digital Video

  • Games design concept

What do I need?

You will need 4 GCSE’s at grade D-E or above and to come to an interview and online assessment.

How is the course taught?

Through class room teaching, practical activities and course work and research.

  • Motivated in following a vocational programme of study

  • Demonstrate a commitment to working towards goals with your tutor

How will I be assessed?

You will be assessed continually through practical project work, coursework, written assignments and presentations.

What does it lead to?

This course leads to employment.

This course also leads to further study or progress to Media or Games and Animation at Level 3.
