Introduction to the course

This course covers every aspect of supporting teaching and learning in schools. You will study units that reflect the importance of supporting teaching and learning and the essential support work that is carried out in schools to help children achieve their potential.

What do I need?

You should be working in a school at Foundation Stage, or Key Stages 1-4. No specific qualifications are required, but your literacy skills and your understanding of childcare will be assessed. Criminal Record Bureau checks are required for working in a school. You need a minimum of 60 hours experience for each unit. This can be as a paid employee, volunteer or through a work experience placement.

How is the course taught?

Lessons offer a range of activities including group discussions, projects and self-reflection of your own skills and knowledge.

How will I be assessed?

Assessment is by portfolio of work and assignments.

What does it lead to?

You could progress to the Level 3 Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools programme.

Entry Level
