Introduction to the course

This course covers every aspect of supporting teaching and learning in schools. You will study units that reflect the importance of supporting teaching and learning and the essential support work that is carried out in schools to help children achieve their potential.

What do I need?

To enrol onto the Supporting Teaching and Learning course at Level 2, you will need 4 GCSEs at grade D-G (3-1) or the equivalent Level 1 qualifications at Pass grade. If you do not have formal qualifications you can come in and complete a college based assessment.

All learners are accepted subject to an interview with the Early Years team and suitable references. During the course you will be working in a placement for 200-250 hours. These placements will usually be in a school at Foundation Stage, or Key Stages 1-4. Learners are able to find their own setting or these will be arranged by our Placement officers. In order to complete a placement a DBS check will be required.

How is the course taught?

Lessons offer a range of activities including group discussions, projects and self-reflection of your own skills and knowledge.

Please note that in order to achieve formal qualifications in English and Maths learners will have to enrol onto standalone courses, as these are not included as part of this course.

How will I be assessed?

Assessment is by portfolio of work and assignments.

What does it lead to?

You could progress to the Level 3 Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools programme.
