Introduction to the course

This Level 2 qualification in Early Years Education will help to prepare you for work in an Early Years setting. The units cover a wide range of topics, including Children’s Development, Health and Safety, Safeguarding and Working with Children. You will have the opportunity to take functional skills qualifications in English and ICT. The course requires you to complete 200 hours in a work placement, organised by CONEL College. You will attend one day a week during your placement, and there will be a week-long block placement.

What do I need?

To enrol onto the Introduction to Early Years Education Certificate at Level 2, you will need 4 GCSEs at grade D-G or the equivalent Level 1 qualifications at Pass grade. You will be invited to come to an interview and pass an assessment. You are also required to have a good reference.

If you are coming from school or another college, you will need an 87% attendance record. Criminal Record Bureau CRM/DBS checks are also required.

How is the course taught?

This course is taught through interactive group activities, discussions, written assignments and practical activities.

How will I be assessed?

You will complete a minimum of 200 hours of practical training in a range of childcare settings where your work-based practice is observed.

What does it lead to?

If you complete the Level 2 course successfully, you can apply for the CACHE Level 3 Diploma for the Children’s and Young People’s Workforce. Eventually, you could gain employment as an assistant in an Early Years setting.
