Introduction to the course
If you want to go to university to study an Engineering course but do not have a formal academic qualification, this diploma is the perfect next step. You will study a range of modules, including maths, physics, electronics and ICT.
Topics covered can include:

- Vectors And Matrices
- Introduction To Cad
- Motion, Energy And Forces
- Thermal Properties Of Matter
- Intro To Digital And Microelectronics
- Electrical Circuit Theory
What do I need?
You must be at least 19 years old with a background in Engineering or Science and motivation to succeed. You will need GCSEs in maths and English at Grade C or above. You will also be required to take an English and maths assessment, and have an interview before enrolling onto the course.
How is the course taught?
You will be taught through group activities, discussion, surveying college buildings, and studying the practical applications of engineering.
How will I be assessed?
Assessment is based mostly on assignments and several units will involve exams.
What does it lead to?
Access courses are designed to facilitate progression into higher education courses. Students typically go on to use their Access to HE Engineering Level 3 qualification as a stepping stone to enrolment on a university course. Alternatively, students may progress to studying an HNC/HND (Higher National Certificate/Higher National Diploma).
