Introduction to the course
This Level 2 Technical Certificate in Beauty Retail aims to provide you with a range of essential technical practical skills and knowledge, which will equip you to seek employment or further training within the Beauty retail Industry.
This qualification is suitable for anyone over the age of 16 years. You don’t need any previous knowledge
This programme is designed to kick-start your career and provide the necessary skills and techniques for you to work in non-treatment roles associated with the sector.
In today’s market, counter services are an area of growth with the majority of department stores employing individuals with a sound underpinning knowledgeable of the beauty and hair sector.
This qualification provides a real opportunity for you to gain work specific skills and knowledge in beauty retail as well as studying English and maths that would benefit you in your progression opportunities and into employment.
It will provide an opportunity to connect your technical learning with real-life work placement through the work experience element of your course.
You are likely to choose this qualification if you want to cover all of the technical skills and knowledge needed to work as a beauty retailer.
Through work experience, you will have the opportunity to work within a professional salon; many previous students have seen this lead to part-time and full-time work.
What do I need?
GCSE grades A-C or equivalent. Interview and initial assessment which will include a practical skills assessment to make sure the course is a good match for you.
You must be able to provide a good attendance and behaviour report from your school (if appropriate), be reliable and have the ability to work hard and meet deadlines. You will also be required to work under supervision and follow instructions.
This qualification is suitable for anyone over the age of 16 years. You don’t need any previous knowledge or experience to start this qualification
You must set aside time outside of college hours to study and research. Learners must demonstrate at interview their commitment to self-motivated study.
It will be necessary for you to purchase a professional Kit and uniform at a cost of approximately £120.
How is the course taught?
You will experience a variety of learning methods and activities, which will include classroom-based theory sessions, hands-on practical sessions and client based sessions, which will involve working within the college commercial salon.
Emphasis is placed on correct working procedures and students will be able to develop their individual talents and interests during workshop sessions in our well-equipped salons.
How will I be assessed?
Assessments are continuous throughout the course in the form of on-line tests, projects, assignments and practical observations.
You will keep a personal journal where you will record your own journey throughout the course and review, identify and evaluate how your own skills are developing.
To achieve this qualification you will be required to successfully complete a Theory exam and a practical synoptic assignment, which is externally set, marked and moderated.
What does it lead to?
Following successful completion of this qualification you will be qualified to work in a number of employment destinations such as; shops, department stores or in salons.
The course also provides skills transferable to other subject areas such as Beauty Therapy, Nail Technology, Make-up artist and Barbering
You will develop transferrable skills valuable to employers such as: communication and client care skills, industry experience gained through work experience and training within a professional environment, good time keeping, a willingness to learn, knowledge of appropriate dress, an ability to work independently, planning and preparation skills, problem solving and the ability to establish/maintain good working relationships with others.
