Introduction to the course

The Access to Higher Education Level 3: Midwifery course will give you the fundamental knowledge you'll need to start your career in midwifery. The course is specifically designed for adults who don't have the typical qualifications (such as A Levels) required to go on to study at university level, but who have the drive and desire to embark on a new career in midwifery. As a Higher Education Level 3 Midwifery student, you will study a range of topics, including psychology, the sociology of health and nursing, and the health sciences. Units designed to hone your research and independent learning skills have also been included in the course’s syllabus to better prepare you for university study.

What do I need?

You must be at least 19 years of age and have a Grade C or above in both GCSE English and GCSE Maths. After applying, you will be invited for an interview with a course leader to discuss your suitability for the course and provide you with more information regarding the course's structure.

How is the course taught?

The course syllabus is taught through a variety of teaching methods, the majority of which have been specifically chosen to help you prepare for study at university. You will be expected to participate in interactive lectures, classroom seminars, and group discussions.

How will I be assessed?

The Access to Higher Education: Midwifery course is a credit-based course and you will be routinely assessed throughout your time studying. Your progress will be monitored through written assignments, analysis of case studies, and examinations. You will also create a portfolio of evidence that will be submitted to the examination board at the end of the course.

What does it lead to?

This course will provide HE progression opportunities for students to go to university to become midwives.
