Introduction to the course

This Level 3 qualification will help to prepare you for work in an Early Years setting. The units cover a wide range of topics including, Child Development, Supporting Children’s Speech and Communication and

Language. You will have the opportunity to undertake qualifications in English and Maths .

The course requires you to complete 400 hours in a work placement, organised by the College. You will attend two days a week in a placement and there will also be a week-long block placement.

This is a two-year course, enabling learners to develop a common core of knowledge, including child development, play and learning, safeguarding, observation, assessment and planning.

What do I need?

You will need to be at least 16 years of age with a keen interest in child care. You must show the ability to work at Level 3.  Criminal Record Bureau checks are required.  

How is the course taught?

Group activities, discussions, written assignments and practical activities 

How will I be assessed?

Assessment is through a mixture of examinations, assignments and portfolio tasks.

Entry Level
