Introduction to the course

If you want to use your life experience to care for others and are considering a career in health and care, this course designed is for you.  

The course will give you a good grounding in health and care and give you the opportunity to improve your literacy, numeracy and ICT skills.

You will study:

  • Health and care including special needs

  • Equality, Diversity and Inclusion

  • Legislation and Health & Safety

  • Communication skills

  • English, maths and ICT

What do I need?

You will need to be at least 16 years of age with a keen interest in health and social care. You must show the ability to work at Level one. Disclosure and Barring Service DBS checks are required.

How is the course taught?

You will have a mixture of group activities, discussions, lectures and practical activities. You will complete a minimum of 60 hours work experience.

The course is taught through a mixture of written, observations, a series of online and written tests as well as practical elements.

The course will be taught for three days a week for one academic year.

How will I be assessed?

You will be assessed through a portfolio of evidence collected from written assessments, presentations, witness statements and practice observation.

Work as a healthcare professional.
