Introduction to the course

This course covers IT skills, English and maths and you will gain a diploma qualification on successfully completing the course.

You will work on your ability to manage documents and data in a variety of applications through practical and theory-based lessons.

Throughout the course you will cover the following topics:

  • Desktop Publishing

  • Using the Internet

  • Using E-mail

  • Presentation Software

  • Spreadsheet Software

  • Website Software

  • Improving Productivity

  • User Fundamentals

  • IT Communications

  • Design Software

  • Imaging Software

  • Word Processing

If you have not yet achieved a grade C or above in GCSE English and maths, you will be required to attend GCSE resit sessions if you achieved grade D. You will be required to attend English and Maths functional skills sessions if you achieved grade E or below.

 

What do I need?

here are no formal qualifications needed for this course. However, you are likely to progress from one of the following:

  • An Entry Certificate in Skills for Working Life

  • Life Skills or other Entry level qualification

How is the course taught?

The course is taught mainly through classroom lectures and a range of practical work-related assignments, which will help develop your competencies to entry level standard in industry. The course is a mix of taught lessons and individual work

How will I be assessed?

You will be assessed via a portfolio of your written and practical assignments. There will also be online testing to assess your key skills.

What does it lead to?

You could progress to the ICT Level 2 qualification on successfully completing the Level 1.

Employer's Benefit
