Introduction to the course

The Level 3 BTEC 90-Credit Diploma Level 3 in ICT and Computing has been specifically designed for students who want to forge a successful career in the IT and computing industry. The course takes a year to complete and explores a variety of essential ICT modules, including programming, database design, video games development, and website production. Students will also learn about the ways in which ICT has helped to shape businesses in the modern world and the emergence of e-commerce. After successfully completing the 90 Credit Diploma in ICT and Computing, students will have the opportunity to progress to the ICT and Computing BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma. The Extended Diploma is equivalent to 3 A Levels at grades A to C and is widely accepted by a number of universities.

This is a 2 year course. You will study a total of 18 units (over 2 years) that have been handpicked by the team to provide you with the best opportunity to achieve a thorough understanding of the ICT world.

Year 1 is Subsidiary Diploma which is equivalent to 1.5 “A” levels

Students are expected to satisfactorily complete the Subsidiary programme prior to being considered appropriate for a year 2 qualification.

Year 2 is Extended Diploma which is equivalent to 3 “A” levels

What do I need?

To enrol on the ICT and Computing BTEC 90-Credit Diploma Level 3 course, you will need to have either 4 GCSEs at Grades A*- C including maths and English, or an equivalent Level 2 qualification at grade Merit or above. After submitting your application, you will be invited to attend an interview with a course leader to discuss the course in more detail and assess your suitability. You must have a good attendance record, and the motivation and drive to succeed.

How is the course taught?

The BTEC course material is taught through a series of lectures, workshops and visits. Throughout the course, you have the opportunity to work independently, in a group, and as part of a pair to develop you knowledge of the course material and discuss ideas and concepts with your fellow students.

How will I be assessed?

Your progress will be assessed regularly throughout the course through a number of written and practical assessments.

What does it lead to?

You could use your qualification as a stepping stone to access the ICT and Computing BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma and, eventually, a higher education course related to the study of ICT and Computing. Alternatively, students can use their newfound knowledge of the ICT industry to find immediate work in business environments.
