Introduction to the course

The Extended Diploma Level 3 in IT Year 2 (Top Up) is designed to provide students with the practical skills and theoretical knowledge required to build a career in the computing industry. The course is specifically targeted at individuals who are interested in the programming element of the computing industry, including software and games development.

This is a 2 year course. You will study a total of 18 units (over 2 years) that have been handpicked by the team to provide you with the best opportunity to achieve a thorough understanding of the ICT world.

Year 1 is Subsidiary Diploma which is equivalent to 1.5 “A” levels

Students are expected to satisfactorily complete the Subsidiary programme prior to being considered appropriate for a year 2 qualification.

Year 2 is Extended Diploma which is equivalent to 3 “A” levels

What do I need?

As an applicant, you will be asked to attend the college for an interview with a course leader and take a literacy and numeracy assessment.

How is the course taught?

The course's syllabus is taught through a mix of guided lessons and individual work. You will be expected to put in additional hours of independent learning and spend time in the Learning Resource Centre Library to support your study and complete the programmed successfully.

How will I be assessed?

You will be assessed throughout the length of the course through a variety of assignments. After enrolling on the course, you will begin to build a portfolio of work that will also be assessed.

What does it lead to?

You could use your qualification to enter into a Higher Education degree, or to head straight into employment. Potential jobs that this course could lead to include IT Operate/IT User Support Technician Roles.
