Introduction to the course

The opportunities to build careers in the public services in London are mainly focussed on the emergency services. By enrolling on this course, students will have the opportunity to complete the Security Industry Authority Licence, sport and outdoor coaching qualifications and activity management and leadership qualifications.

Public service organisations such as the Metropolitan Police are raising both the academic and physical tness requirements for applicants so that successful candidates will have a higher level of academic reasoning and ability, along with the level of fitness so that a tter and better equipped service is created for the future.

Through links with organisations such as the Adventure Learning Foundation, Swinley Bike Hub, Middlesex Lords’ Taverners and Middlesex University’s Sports Faculty, students will develop a range of work relevant skills at a higher level, allowing them to progress onto higher-level qualifications or into their chosen career.

You will be exposed to a variety of public service organisations and you will have significant opportunities to network and make valuable contacts with a wide range of both uniformed and non-uniformed services. Previous groups have had the opportunity to work with First Responder and members of the military services and learners have worked with the Metropolitan Police Service to deliver events on their behalf. To further develop your leadership and management skills, you will be expected to lead and manage the annual expedition weeks for all Public Services learners from both CONEL centres.
