BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Public Services
Introduction to the course
The units of the course focus on all aspects of working in a public service environment. The course is designed to equip learners with the knowledge, understanding and skills required for success in current and future employment, or for progression into Higher Education.
The skills developed on this programme will enable learners to meet changing circumstances, whether they arise from a shift in their own sphere of employment, promotion to supervisory or management roles, or from general changes in the public services environment.
The BTEC Public Services Level 3 course is aimed at students who would like to join either the emergency services or the armed forces. The programme of study and activities allows participants to develop a good level of awareness before deciding on their future career. Subjects studied will include:

· Equality, Diversity and Citizenship

· Fitness for Uniformed Services
· War, Conflict and Terrorism

What do I need?
You will need five GCSEs at grades A-C or equivalent, including English. You will need to show a keen interest in joining one of the public services and a good general level of fitness. You will have to attend an interview and undertake an assessment to meet the criteria for the course.
How is the course taught?
Teaching is practical and scenario-based, incorporating some academic report writing. You will also undertake scenario workshops, specific industry briefings and specialist industry events, which link directly to course content and criteria within the assessments for your course.
How will I be assessed?
You will write academic reports and will be assessed continuously through the variety of assignments.
What does it lead to?
You could progress to university or look for immediate employment in the uniformed public services. The course will allow you to be prepared for entry into the public services. We encourage our learners to join volunteer organisations whilst on the course, such as:

· Royal Naval Reserve
· Royal Marines Reserve
· Retained Fire Fighter
· Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve
Voluntary work enables our learners to be prepared for entry to full-time employment.
