Applied Biology Higher National Certificate Level 4
Introduction to the course
Studying in our well-equipped labs, you sill study:
- Laboratory and associated technical activities,
- Core skills for technical work
- Develop your technical skills, knowledge and understanding of life sciences.
Specific industries where knowledge and skills in this area of science are required are:
- Pharmaceuticals (human and animal)
- Medical Biotechnology
- Clinical Research and trials
- Life Sciences
- Food and drink
- Environmental testing
- Ecological/environmental science
- Food science and hygiene
- Public and private health care/NHS
What do I need?
The following criteria will be applied for entry to this programme: GCSEs English, Mathematics and Science at a minimum of Grade C/4-5, a BTEC Level 3 qualification,two A levels in Science at Grades A*-D or a BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Applied Sciences or Level 3 Access to HE Science or other related Level 3 qualifications or related work experience.

How will I be assessed?
Assessment is by written assignments and practical sessions demonstrating competence in a range of areas.
What does it lead to?
This HNC will support your career progression if you are already working in related industries or assist if you would like to develop your knowledge and skills and pursue a career in a biological science-related role, for example, in the food, pharmaceutical, brewing, cosmetics, water or agricultural industries or in the NHS. You will be able to progress to a related HND, a degree programme or employment.
