Introduction to the course
The Extended Diploma qualification is equivalent to three A Levels. Students who gain acceptance to this course will learn practical, work-related skills that will prepare them for a career in a wide range of science-related jobs. You will study units such as:
· Biochemistry and Biochemical Techniques
· Scientific Investigations
· Using Science in the Workplace
· Medical Physics Techniques
· Diseases and Infections
· Chemistry for Biology Technicians
· Genetics and Genetic Engineering
· Energy Changes
· Sources and Applications
· Physiology of Human Regulation and Reproduction
· Chemical Laboratory Techniques
What do I need?
You will need to have completed the Applied Science 90 Credit Level 3 diploma, plus 4 GCSEs at grade A*- C (including science).
How is the course taught?
You will be taught through lectures, practical investigations, videos, role-plays and field visits. You will carry out classroom activities that are based on workplace scenarios.
How will I be assessed?
This course operates a programme of continuous assessment, incorporating regular classroom presentations, written assignments and practical reports. Students are tasked with completing projects and assignments based on a range of realistic workplace situations that introduce the different science-related career options.
What does it lead to?
You could progress to employment or university to study a wide range of courses.
An Applied Science BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma demonstrates that you can to specific deadlines at the high level demanded by employers within a wide range of industries.
