The Access to Higher Education Diploma in Science will focus on giving you the laboratory skills and knowledge required to succeed in higher education.

This programme has been designed to focus not only on biology, chemistry, physics and maths, but also on development of the more fundamental skills of good study practices, confidence building and research skills. This will enable learners to become independent and therefore more likely to succeed on their chosen course at university.

What do I need?

You must be at least 19 years old, with the motivation to succeed in your studies. You will need GCSEs in maths and English at Grade C or above. You will also be required to take an English and maths assessment, and have an interview.

How is the course taught?

Much of the work is practical and takes place within a laboratory setting. This is supported by a research project and a field trip to focus on how fieldwork investigations are produced.

How will I be assessed?

Assessment is based on a portfolio marked by your teachers and validated by examiners. There are tests in some science subjects that need to be completed successfully.

What does it lead to?

You could progress to study science at degree level.
