Introduction to the course
If you want to get a job in the sports and leisure industry, then this course is ideal for you. You will study fitness testing and training, practical sport, anatomy and physiology for sport, sports injury, planning and leading sports activities, technical skills and tactical awareness for sport and exercise and fitness instruction. You may also wish to retake GCSE’s in English and mathematics.
What do I need?
You will need 4 GCSEs at grade D-G or the equivalent Level 1 qualifications at Pass grade, to come to an interview, pass an assessment and have a good reference. If you are coming from school or another College, you will need an 87% attendance record.
You will need to enjoy sports and fitness and have the desire to improve your own personal fitness. You must be willing to work within a team environment and develop your personal qualities. You must be enthusiastic, energetic and show an interest in developing a range of skills and techniques that will help you in gaining employment in the sports and leisure industry. In addition you will need to enjoy sport and fitness, have an interest in the human body and hold a genuine desire to further your all around knowledge in sports.
How is the course taught?
This course is a mixture of assignment writing and p practical assessment where you will be given the opportunity to develop your playing skills through dart fish video analysis.
How will I be assessed?
You will be assessed via a combination of observations during practical tasks and written coursework. Assessments throughout the course vary from assignment to assignment, giving you a chance to showcase your development through a variety of methods.
What does it lead to?
If you gain a Merit for the course, complete and pass all functional skills exams and sustain an average attendance of 85% you could go on to a Level 3 BTEC in Sport or progress onto an NVQ L2 Activity Leadership or Apprenticeship in activity leadership, coaching or fitness instruction.
